The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is strengthening enforcement  against information blocking, which occurs when healthcare entities restrict patients’ access, exchange, or use of their electronic health information (EHI). This initiative is part of the 21st Century Cures Act and is enforced by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) and the HHS Office of Inspector General (OIG).
