Texas and New Mexico Reporting Measles Outbreak

The Texas Department of State Health Services is reporting an outbreak of measles in the South Plains region of Texas. According to the Texas DSHS:

  • 58 cases of measles have been identified with symptom onset within the last three weeks.
  • Thirteen of the patients have been hospitalized.
  • Four of the cases are vaccinated; the remainder unvaccinated, or their vaccination status is unknown.
  • The age range of identified measles cases:
    • 15 cases in ages 0-4 years
    • 33 cases in ages 5-17
