Overview
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has launched the Risk-Based Survey (RBS) nationwide, that began on September 8, 2026. The RBS is a streamlined version of long-term care survey process (LTCSP), reserved for higher-performing nursing homes. It uses a smaller survey team, a smaller resident sample, and roughly half the onsite time of a traditional survey, while still reviewing all required areas of compliance.
