The U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is warning providers and patients of identified phishing scams for medical records. This may include scammers faxing fraudulent medical records requests (with CMS logo at the top) to get providers to send patient records in response.
CMS is recommending that when reviewing any requests for medical records, look for signs of a scam, including:
