According to the Joint Commission (TJC), the storage of concentrated electrolytes in patient care areas outside of the pharmacy is permitted only in specific situations. In order to reduce risk of medication error, concentrated electrolytes are not generally kept in patient care areas unless there is a critical need for immediate access.
